What it is
Together AI addresses the challenge of efficiently deploying and running large language models at scale. Developers and organizations previously struggled with the complexity and cost of hosting their own AI models or relying on expensive proprietary APIs. Together AI provides a cloud platform specifically designed for running open-source AI models with optimized performance.
At a glance
Together AI provides significant value beyond basic ChatGPT access through proprietary infrastructure optimizations that deliver faster inference speeds, API access to multiple open-source models like Llama and Mistral, and fine-tuning capabilities for custom use cases.
Strong evidenceQuality score
Together AI Fast, low-cost inference for open-source models, but costs rise at scale.

“It’s just so fast. If you’ve ever tried to run open-source models yourself, you know how much of a headache the infrastructure is. With Together, you can just grab an API key and start playing with all these models, like Llama or Mistral. It feels like it was actually designed to be fast, and the inference is just snappier than the other platforms I’ve tried. It is definitely not for the beginner. If you are not comfortable with coding or APIs, you are going to be totally lost because the docume”
“The best thing I like about Together AI is 100% accurate most of the time. It performs best without losing accuracy. It scales with utmost models. And it works on faster way with almost 400 tokens/sec I don't see much disadvantage when it was implemented for our project. But it is sometimes slow which I have observed on long searched values. But it can be neglected with accuracy. Since we have the demand for qualitative implementation of best visuals in our project. And what we saw it uses optim”
“Maybe not the real model? Or slower to create? The pricing is under what the provider charges substantially for closed models. So they are either eating massive losses, only using spare capacity in some deal or not providing the real model.”
“I am a big fan of Together.ai because they have the latest models that come out, and there are a lot of models to play with. But if you don’t find joy in experimentation, I would agree that Houndify is better.”
“I've seen this play out a few times now, and honestly the "give away, then charge for scale" model only really works when two things line up: you've got something people genuinely can't get elsewhere, and your unit economics actually survive the free tier abuse. Together AI nailed both. They had the H100s when nobody else did, and their inference optimisation meant they weren't bleeding money on every free request. Most companies trying this approach get one but not the other. The bit that's”
“Is there any upsides? Guess if they didn't use bait and switch tactics, I would have stayed. Bait and switch. Setup a model for some testing on a serverless instance. Two days later the api access does not work. Contact support to be told that the instance has been deprecated. During setup, there was no indication of the instance being marked for deprecation. Support claimed there was an announcement sent out. I questioned how was I supposed to receive that when I wasn't a customer. After 2 week”
“I use together a ton. It’s cheap and fast and I can push a lot of tokens through it and not waste my physical GPUs on simple generative tasks when they could be doing something that requires dedicated GPU like training or running local only models. To beat their prices renting GPUs, I don’t think I could do it even at 100% load. If I bought GPUs of my own and parked them in a data center and kept them doing inference at 80% load 24/7 I could come close but their inference pipeline is going to ”
“Been using Together.ai for inference but the pricing is getting hard to justify as the project scales. Latency has also been inconsistent a bit. What are you running instead? Looking for something with decent model selection.”
“been on most of em in prod for a year. honest take, together is the safe default, fireworks fastest at like 30% premium, baseten best dev ux which you pay for, modal overkill for plain api inference. biggest thing i wish i knew earlier, ALWAYS ask for committed spend pricing. public rates are tourist prices, everyone discounts 20-40% for 5k+/mo commits. ps i run runcrate, another in this category”

“Hi, I bought €15 worth of credits through Together.AI, hoping I could use the LLMs to power my AnythingLLM for personal projects. However, I'm having an issue where, whenever I try a more complex prompt, the model abruptly stops. I tried the same thing through aichat (an open-source CLI tool for prompting LLMs) and encountered the same issue. I set the max_tokens value really high, so I don't think that's the problem. Does anyone have any experience with this and could help me? Was it a mistake ”
