I've tried this for a good week now. All I can say is that its a very viable replacement for SillyTavern depite OP's mentioning of it. Its as customizable as ST but everything is streamlined for your convenience. Its also very easy to install, which I think is the main reason why people don't use ST in the first place. Its literally just a one-click install .exe and it sets everything up for you.

Your preset curbed my GLM positivity so I'm in brother. Now I just need it to curb the "the [noun] of a [noun]" of a man, of a woman, of someone. I stg if I have to see that sentence structure one more time... 😭😭😭

Hi all! I'm spending the last of my remaining sub on Chutes and I desperately want to migrate, but I don't know where. My requirements are: Multiple swipe generation (I literally cannot live without it, so Nanogpt sadly didn't work for me) Large contexts (I use LLM as a co-writer, and yes, a lot of little nuances get lost if I limit it to 64k. I need 100k at the minimum for my purposes) Monthly subscription. Having lived with Chutes' PAYG hell for two weeks I know for certain that I spend a lot

POSITIVE reddit

Good stuff! Beta testing it was pretty fun and I will surely tweak and use the hell out of the official release!

I can also highly recommend "Qvink MessageSummarize" to save costs (way less tokens) and improve the LLMs understanding of the progress of the story. I recommend to only use the "recent memories" but inject all of them into the context without limit.

NEGATIVE reddit

Expensive, you say, like buying a graphics card with VRAM or a WHOLE NEW COMPUTER is not expensive.

POSITIVE reddit

Yes, it is free and it can run on an Android . However, it's only a frontend, which means it communicates to the LLM but it doesn't make the LLM run. To run the LLM, you have two big options: Running it locally, on your PC or maybe on your phone. It's free (except for the power), but can be difficult to set up. Running it via the internet, via API, probably with OpenRouter or NanoGPT , which are both paid except for some free, restricted models. API is much easier to set up and it is generally m

Greetings fellas I am currently have Z.ai coding plan, although their RP services are fine for me but I heard they’re having new policies that make RP life harder. Though I do have Openrouter credits to go for, but I prefer buffet-like service when doing RP and stuff via Sillytavern. So I come to ask you fellas what’s good to go for at this time, cheers.

I have one of those "legacy subscriptions " with a quota for every 5 hours. Currently I'm really happy with it, but my time zone is also favorable I guess, as I may use it most when the traffic is rather low on their servers. I'm on the cheapest plan and barley use up 1%. The most I've ever used was maybe 4%. All their coding plans will make their newest models available (sometimes the cheaper plans get them later), and that makes is really attractive as I feel like z.ai is really catching up to

Update by RossAcsends @everyone TLDR: If you ever used the Bot Browser extension, uninstall it and rotate ALL of your API keys ASAP. It's come to our attention that the 'Bot Browser' extension has a trojan built into it that can steal API keys. Technical details can be found here: [Link to the rentry that Reddit seem to delete, sorry] The exploited vulnerability was patched out of SillyTavern's 1.17.0 release on March 28th, 2026, so if you keep your ST up to date, you are likely safe. But if you

Man, I did have my openrouter API key stolen back in february. Very much could be this.Stopped using openrouter, returned to my account having one-two opus requests a day for a month. They probably already have a large collection of API's trying to be less visible. Also this thing was advertised all over, reddit, boards etc. Edit: what's even funnier is that I reported the exploit that was used for this months later, but never actually connected the dots on why my own keys got stolen. Lol

NEGATIVE reddit

It seems like the trojan was implemented from the start, or at least when it was first shared on this subreddit in december. I have a backup of the extension folder from when I updated it around the 15th of that month, and the cache file does indeed have the second repo, 'updated_cards', coded into it.

You can send 1000 messages in the discord, you almost always get a perfect answer. There's not like a limit or anything. It's free.

POSITIVE reddit

Agree with the other answer. The Discord is where it's at if you want to chat live with people. Very helpful and friendly. And live chat unlike Reddit.

POSITIVE reddit

DM me to chat. Ill help as much as I can. No charge.

Holy wall of text Batman! It feels like this is twice as long as it needs to be. You can skip all of the paragraphs about graphics cards for one simple maxim: You need as much VRAM as the model has billions of parameters +20% to run it at Q8 (near optimal). Half of that for Q4 (minimum before quality degrades dramatically). Until you meet that threshhold, nothing else really matters. Also, my advice is to not use Ollama if you don't have to. It works, but it's clunky as hell. Prefer TextGen, Kob

Great list! Besides the built in extensions, one of the most useful for me is Prompt Inspector. - lets you see the full prompt in a pop up before it’s sent to the LLM. Helps debug things like figuring out where to insert a lorebook, or how your preset/system prompt are formatted, or what the character card info looks like, or where the authors note is showing up, etc. https://github.com/SillyTavern/Extension-PromptInspector

Questions

Frequently asked

What is SillyTavern?

SillyTavern is a locally installed user interface for Large Language Models that gives AI enthusiasts granular control over their interactions. It allows users to create customizable character cards, manage group chats with multiple AI characters, and connect to various LLM backends including OpenAI-compatible APIs, KoboldAI, and local models. The tool emerged as an open-source fork in February 2023 and focuses specifically on power user needs rather than mainstream simplification.

Is SillyTavern free to use?

Yes, SillyTavern is completely free and open-source software with over 300 contributors. Since it's a locally installed interface, you only need to pay for the LLM backend services you choose to connect to, such as OpenAI's API or other compatible services.

What are character cards in SillyTavern?

Character cards are collections of prompts that define LLM behavior and personality, similar to ChatGPT's GPTs but with far more customization control. They enable persistent, complex AI personalities that users can interact with consistently over time. The sophisticated character card system is one of SillyTavern's distinguishing features compared to other AI interfaces.

Can SillyTavern handle group conversations with multiple AI characters?

Yes, SillyTavern supports group chats where multiple AI characters can interact with users and each other simultaneously. This feature allows for complex multi-character scenarios and conversations that go beyond simple one-on-one AI interactions.

What system requirements does SillyTavern have?

SillyTavern has minimal hardware requirements and can run on any system with NodeJS 20 or higher. It's available for Windows and Mac platforms as a locally installed application, removing dependency on cloud services.

What's the difference between SillyTavern's stable and staging branches?

SillyTavern offers two branches: a stable release branch that's updated monthly and recommended for most users, and a staging branch with daily updates for power users. The staging branch provides cutting-edge features but may be less stable than the monthly release version.

What extensions and integrations does SillyTavern support?

SillyTavern includes an extensive extensions system supporting character emotional expressions, automatic chat summarization, real-time translation, and web search integration. It also integrates with image generation tools like Stable Diffusion, FLUX, and DALL-E, plus text-to-speech capabilities for enhanced interactions.

What is the World Info system in SillyTavern?

The World Info system allows users to create rich lore and context for their AI interactions while saving tokens. This feature helps maintain consistent background information and world-building elements across conversations without repeatedly including the same context in prompts.
