What it is

Overview

An open-source AI coding agent that connects to any model provider through a unified interface. OpenCode runs across terminal, IDE, and desktop environments with LSP support for multiple programming languages. The multi-model flexibility draws software developers who want to switch between providers without changing their workflow. Built as a wrapper architecture that routes requests to external AI services rather than hosting its own models.

Models barely work. takes more then 10 minutes for a simple response. save your money get a 20$ subscription somewhere else its more worth it.

In my personal opinion OpenCode has turned into AI slop. I adopted OpenCode in November and it was very impressed. But unfortunately my company has moved on. I been waiting on a simple bug fix for over 2 months now, and they have just introduced nothing but major bugs. They are trying to ship fasts but ship nothing but ai slop. I was very interested on adopting OpenCode because the team seamed to have a nice balance of Ai coding and traditional coding standards, but they have abandoned that

NEGATIVE reddit

I just tried opencode. For the original posters question, make a copy of the directory and let it scribble. I would not trust these tools with anything important. Second, and this goes for all of the AI coding tools I have used, if you give it a non-trivial program, say a couple of thousand lines, and ask for a manipulation, it does nothing of any use. I gave it a large program with the job of converting it to C language , and it produces a couple of dozen lines of code that don't do anythin

I'm surprised I didn't see anyone talking about this above but I switched from Kilo Code (which I loved) because OpenCode has much better cache hit rates. It has saved me quite a lot of money

OpenCode Go: extremely poor usable coding capacity I subscribed to OpenCode Go because it is advertised as a low-cost $10/month subscription providing reliable access to popular open coding models. My practical experience was very different. I gave GLM 5.3 one relatively small implementation plan. The model did not even finish that single task before my 5-hour Go limit was exhausted. OpenCode's own usage page then showed that this one incomplete task had consumed: 101.3% of my 5-hour allowan

I seems like a good concept, until you see how fast your tokens can disappear on just a mid tier model. i tried the Go Subscription, and after 30 min usage i already reach my 50% monthly usage. for that i can easy find better alternatives, I can not recommend this subscription model they use

NEGATIVE trustpilot

They "charged" me but did not provide the tokens. Opencode.ai burns my usage credits without responding to my email requesting that they fix it. Specifically, I used a $5 credit referral bonus when my usage was reaching it's limit and I saw on the website that my 5 hour usage went down from 100% to around %54. I restarted my chat session and it did not respond, I refreshed my Opencode.ai usage and it said 100% again, in less that 1 minute, and the usage chart showed 0 usage at all. And my $5

It just, works. Aside from having a nice selection of free models (I really miss DSV4F btw) I haven't had to fight it like every. other. harness.

for me opencode = opencode TUI. pros: 1.opencode tui has amazing hotkeys and selection with drag right click just like terminal should. 2. and the session status bar of sessions in opencode v2 is so good you easily know if session is generating or done unchecked or done checked its the 1 reason why you need opencode v2 3. i recommend vercel theme it makes the colors look good on the status bar of sessions and all the colors of all text. it all just looks pretty. no unnecessary garbage like in

NEGATIVE reddit

The optical illusion of a '$60 pool' vs. actual model token costs is a massive UX/marketing failure.

POSITIVE trustpilot

I've being using OpenCode for an while, and it's become part of my daily development workflow. It's fast and gives me the flexibility to use different models depending on the task. hence there are still few areas that could be improved more.

POSITIVE reddit

By far the best TUI available, ease of use, free models, model independent , lot of plugins
