What it is
Legal professionals traditionally struggle with document chaos, version control issues, and disconnected workflows across multiple platforms. Law firms and in-house legal teams often waste time searching for documents, ensuring they're working on current versions, and manually managing complex legal processes that could be automated.
At a glance
NetDocuments offers specialized legal document management with proprietary Legal Context Graph technology and AI features designed specifically for law firms. It includes 150+ integrations with legal workflows, but primarily serves one specialized domain without breakthrough UX innovations.

“Wow, I also thought you would have more answers. I'm one of those third party types that has all of the NetDocuments certifications and has built out several of the apps. I have a demo space that I can share with you over a call if you'd like to play with some stuff, but I can't give you access to it like a trial. HMU. The legal assistant is solid and it doesn't need setup, but you'll be prompting. It has a sweet feature with the prompt library letting you save and reuse good prompts. The fu”
“I have been practicing law for more than 20 years. My firm's decision to transfer to NetDocs made me want to quit. The only thing to save me was to change to a shadow document system for my own use. I downloaded all of our old files to a local system to avoid the digital retardation of the NetDocs system. Now, I can get done in three clicks where NetDocs would have required 20. The NetDocs system has significantly reduced my team's profitability. We are all angry about it constantly. NetDocs is ”
“Sucks. Massively sucks. Crashes constantly, slow as hell. Versioning doesn’t work well. Can’t work on documents with another person concurrently. Mac client constantly broken.”
“How much commission are you getting from this. Be real. Your not an attorney. I destroyed my knuckles slamming the desk out of frustration using Netdocuments. Complete garbage.”
“I’m using NetDocs as a solo. Not overkill at all if you have many matters, need a proper doc management system and do not need the other features that all-in programs (eg Smokeball, Clio etc) provide. It works seamlessly with TimeSolv. And, NetDocs worked with me as a solo. iManage had nothing for solos. But my experience is just one data point. The “right” tech stack depends on your practice area and individual needs.”
“I agree with the other users, NetDocs is overkill if it's just going to be you as a user. You have to pay for implementation/migration and that can be a lot of work and you have to work with a migration company and it is quite the investment and once you are locked in, you have to pay to get your data out. I think NetDocuments is great, but I think for a solo, it could be a lot. You could perhaps look into practice management software or document storage solutions like Box, etc. or if you have”
“Netdocuments is an overpriced product. If implemented well, it can be great. They offer pretty decent technical support too. Their sales, billing and upper management are horrible. They have a very apparent bait and switch on pricing. It will cost you triple what you may have paid with an older on prem iManage or Worldox setup. All-in-all, I would avoid them. I have client looking to move from them now and it will cost them to do so. Netdocuments holds your firm's data for hostage. I would avoid”
“NetDocuments Warning. Read before you buy. | If you’re looking for nothing more than an overpriced vault to store your files, then NetDocuments might fit the bill. But if you expect efficiency, transparency, and true document management, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. I currently pay nearly $30,000 a year — and that’s without NDMax or any AI features. One major reason for this staggering cost? In my experience, to make your documents searchable, you’re forced to purchase double the storag”
“Prefer it to iManage. Don’t find it slow and no complaints. Never crashed on me.”
“Anyone else on NetDocuments having issues? We are on day 2 of the system being slow/non-responsive. Update 10-16-25: From the Trust-us.netdocuments.com site: " We are continuing to actively investigate this issue and have not yet confirmed a root cause or permanent resolution. " Also, I received an email from NetDocuments last night which stated: "While we've seen encouraging signs of recovery, we are maintaining heightened monitoring and continuing to work closely with our provider to identify ”
“We've had a lot of problems, including when NetDocs does not admit there is a problem... In my opinion, NetDocs reliability has been terrible and they have not been investing enough in their backend. I think they got bought by private equity and it might be showing (once you are locked in, profits over customers....)”
“Yes, it's an issue at my firm.”

“Update to prior request: Forget it. I called their number at 866-638-3627, and it went to a non-specific vm. So, either Netdocuments is a scam, or they're out of business. If you responded to my prior post, my apologies. [Prior Post] Hi. From Reddit, saw recommendations to Netdocuments for solo practitioner alternatives to dropbox. Went to Netdocuments website. Couldn't find any pricing/plans. Couldn't find any way to buy the product. Does Netdocuments still exist? If so, anyone know how to buy ”
“Being down two days in a row is unacceptable without any explicit explanation of what happened.”
“NetDocuments - Great Cloud based DMS — Almost always positive. The search, storage and applications work. When they don't the support staff is usually friendly and knowledgeable — Super easy to access documents anywhere that you have an internet connection. That's almost as good as using Google! — Sometimes finding the documents you need can be challenging.”
“I have used both systems in the past. In my personal opinion, NetDocs is far superior. I feel like the interface for NetDocs is more intuitive, especially when searching for documents.”
“Could I please have some help with using NetDocuments: 1 How do I open a document? 2 How do I save a document? 3 How do I close a document? It’s incredibly complicated: the easiest way I have found is to type in a URL that takes me to a search screen, and to save a document, I have to download it to my local drive and then upload it through a link in a NetDocuments webpage. That’s so time-consuming and ridiculous. there’s no way of saving a document otherwise? Other programs just let you tap “sa”

“Garbage: Absolute trash user experience on an iPhone. The login with faceid doesn’t work properly so I have to manually type in my credentials every time. Then it takes no less than 10 steps to execute a search for a word document, and once I finally find it and try to open, the app crashes and I have to start all over again. I’ve never been able to use the app consistently, and I need to rely on it for work.”
