What it is
Liner positions itself as an AI research assistant that searches the web, generates content with citations, and fact-checks claims across academic and professional contexts. The tool wraps multiple AI capabilities into a unified interface focused on sourced research and writing. With 7.2 million monthly visits, the audience skews toward researchers, students, and content creators who need documented sources rather than unsupported AI output. Early reviewers praise the citation integration and academic source discovery, though the small sample size makes sentiment patterns unreliable.
At a glance
Liner offers specialized research features like academic source integration, investment data analysis, and citation tracking that go beyond basic AI chat. The highlighting and annotation workflow provides value over generic AI tools, though some users report the interface has become more complex over time.
Moderate evidenceQuality score
Liner Citation-backed AI search and research with note-taking and export workflows, but citation trust is uneven.

โLiner is an amazing tool for online research! Highlighting text directly on websites and PDFs saves me so much time when taking notes. The AI summaries are incredibly helpful for understanding long articles quickly and everything stays perfectly organized in one place. Highly recommended for any student.โ
โMemo feature for highlights no longer works, text search does not work for highlighted text or memos only for the title of website themselves.โ
โWHY DID LINER CITE WIKIPEDIA! I saw in the ad that it was supposed to cite reliable sources! TRASH! DON'T USE! I WILL UNINSTALL IF THIS DOESN'T GET FIXED. Edit: The filter seemed to help. I will change my rating now.โ
โMajor design flaw: Big problem: it saves ONLY the highlighted text from a web page, instead of the whole article with portions highlighted. Not useful for serious researchers.โ
โLovely annotation tool: This mobile annotation tool is very useful if you want important notes to be taken for future reference. Even sweeter thing is your annotations are cloud sync'ed, so you can access them later on the desktop. This sync feature is very important for me and really stands out as a brilliant app. Highly recommend it.โ
โDidn't work: Did not work. App won't even open.โ
โnon functional ... no input button. app freezing or extremely lagging... failure to utilize 40 research credits. New credits system seems too constrained (how often are the 100 topped off?). How do I SEND the message/prompt?? Was, kinda, worth the lag before... great research capabilities.โ
โIt's a nice app, but it's VERY BUGGY. Dragging highlights is very erratic. I sometimes spend more time picking out the edges of a highlighted section than actually appreciating what the highlighted text means. Also, when working with pdf files, after highlighting something, the bubble won't appear the next time you want to highlight something else. You'll have to close the file to get if back. This is mildly infuriating to be honest.โ
โUseful App: I found this app to be quite useful as I'm always saving and sharing information in my iBooks and the web. It's easy to use and has the features available just where you would copy paste information by hold/press action. I'm not sure why this wan't invented much sooner. Thanks!โ
โThe direction of the app changed from web highlighter into jumbled world of AI. Your highlights are now all over the place, and the UX for saving your highlights changed from folders, hashtags, to threads just to cater to AI hype. Uninstalling.โ
โUseless!: This app is useless. Wants you to sign up when you sign up still useless!!!โ
โHad to change my review, I previously called this a "good highlighting tool with a useless social media element attached". This now almost an entirely social media / article suggestion app. They've updated the interface and I can't even see where I'm supposed to entire sites to highlight text anymore??? I don't even think you can highlight with this anymore! Can't see the option to anywhere!โ
