“I tried all composer2.5 claude sonnet5 grok4.6 openai codex GLM but! no one as close to in being generous and high quality in long coding tasks like Devin swe2. They have created a marvel but must do lots of marketing.”
“No one seems to be talking about Devin anymore. These days, the conversation is constantly dominated by Cursor, Cline, Windsurf, Roo Code, ChatGPT Operator, Claude Code, and even Trae. Was it easily one of the top 5—or even top 3—most overhyped AI-powered services ever? Devin, the "software engineer" that was supposed to fully replace human SWEs? I haven't encountered or heard anyone using Devin for coding these days.”
“Because it doesn’t work like advertised. It was an idea to get VC money , which then was rushed to ship in order to get ROI. The future is to use AI as a tool and not to automate 100% of the work, what people and investors are realizing.”
“The initial Devin demo was found to be faked - not just overhyped. Looks like they just wanted to be first-to-market to showcase agentic AI coding ..by any means necessary. They raised 10s of millions of the back of that, and started making improvements to their tool. Open source tools surpassed its performance within a few weeks, and a few months later we had all the tools you mentioned. Devin is still around, charging absurd prices but relying on marketing and sales to generate revenue - i”
“I've been using Devin pretty heavily lately through CLI, Desktop and Cloud, so I wanted to share my experience specifically with the $20 Pro plan, not Max. Not sponsored and no affiliate link. I just think the entry-level plan is particularly interesting right now because SWE-2 is free until October 8. The biggest thing I've noticed is that the value of Devin isn't really just SWE-2. It's the workflow around it. I usually start a task locally from the CLI, let Devin explore the repo and steer it”
“We are still using their legacy teams subscription for windsurf, and now there is a billing issue with renewal. We cannot renew, or contact chat support as it directs to the same login page again and again and cannot use the windsurf ide too, not even able to login. mailed them via email, but no response. After some days, they asked to renew via a link, paid it but still subscription not activated and customer care went silent again. Absoloutely terrible experience”

“- It's very expensive - It's not very useful - It's about to be outpaced by first-party agents - Their smug PR backfired”

“There a reddit comment finding out that the website for Devin is deploy in Dev mode, on top of that their s3 file upload does not do any validation so people under that thread had an absolutely field day uploading TB of random files to their s3 bucket. They have resort to manually delete files and close the feature temporarily. Worse, the file upload supposed to be for authenticated user only, so basically there seem to be no authorisation whatsoever While all that is happening they forget t”

“Devin has a clean, easy-to-use interface and fits smoothly into my daily workflow. I use it to plan epics, and once the plan looks good, I can go straight to implementation, which usually saves me around two days per epic. It integrates well with my code and logs, so I can upload production logs, let it analyze defects, and even get explanations for parts of the code I don’t fully understand. On top of that, Devin writes test cases, helps review pull requests, and keeps the whole process fast an”
“I tend to be wary of products that you cannot try out or that you have to contact sales for when you want to understand if they can be useful for you”
“This hands-on demo of Devin is absolutely mind-blowing! 🤯 The way it managed its own environment, built the to-do app, and even created a pull request directly on GitHub is incredibly impressive. You've done a fantastic job showcasing its potential and also provided such a balanced perspective on how AI will augment, rather than replace, human developers. This is a must-watch for anyone in tech – the future is here!”
“My thoughts are they clearly did an amazing job creating social media buzz with their announcement. But their product looks to me like nothing but a badly edited demo video of someone trying to build a product off AutoGPT / RAG and Chain-of-Thought techniques. There's nothing here models haven't been doing already. They don't appear to even have their own model. Their website is such absolute trash it's tempting to wonder if they had Devin build it.”
