What it is
CodeBuddy converts Figma designs into production code and generates PRD documents from text descriptions. Built as a wrapper on GPT-4 with a vector database layer that scans codebases for context. The tool integrates directly into VS Code and JetBrains IDEs — IntelliJ, PyCharm, WebStorm — and the recurring user in available signals is the full-stack developer running multi-file projects where manual context-switching slows down generation work.
At a glance
CodeBuddy eliminates the copy-paste workflow between ChatGPT and your IDE by integrating directly into VS Code and JetBrains. It scans your entire codebase into a vector database (similar to Cursor) so you can ask questions about your repo and have it create or edit files automatically. The tool also converts Figma designs into code and generates PRD documents. While it appears to wrap existing LLMs like ChatGPT rather than using proprietary models, the workflow automation and IDE integrations make it meaningfully more productive than typing prompts into ChatGPT directly.
Moderate evidenceQuality score
CodeBuddy Tencent’s AI coding assistant for IDE, CLI, and full-stack app generation, with weaker performance on very large codebases.

“All my new full-stack projects are written 80-90% with AI via Codebuddy and Copilot. I've been a professional software developer for over 22 years. There are definitely things that AI currently can't do, but the more a project is done with AI the easier it is for AI to continue doing it, especially if you let the AI drive as much as you can.”
“Yeah, like a lot of these other guys, I have lots of years programming (40 personally, 35 professionally). They're super tools, but if you don't pay attention to the code they're generating and don't understand what's happening, you're going to get yourself into some embarrassing situations... Make sure you understand the code. If I were reviewing code from a developer and said, "why did you do it this way," and the answer was, "I don't know, that's the way the AI did it," I'd be pretty disple”
“Codebuddy is more like using ChatGPT rather than just autocomplete, but with codebase understanding like Cursor, and the ability to create files and edit existing files without having to choose where to insert code. The Jetbrains integration is particularly good, but I might be biased. We use it differen”
“Codebuddy was originally created as an answer to "what if ChatGPT, but without copy/paste". It has since grown quite a lot from that though: Works as a plugin/extension for Jetbrains and VSCode IDEs. We did Jetbrains first because we felt it was being under represented in the AI assistant space last year Codebase understanding - Like Cursor, it scans your entire codebase into a vector database so you can ask questions about your repo. “Honestly the best thing is still copy and pasting snippets in my opinion. Claude and ChatGPT work well. Claude is my preferred choice. Plugins aren’t practical. What I mean is that they make it too complex. I’ve tried Google AI and CodeBuddy. The UI is too complex, the processing takes too long. CodeBuddy instead of just giving you your results try to insert it directly into your code. Autocomplete is a mess. Jetbrains is good enough. I don’t need another autocomplete. Codebase context is ”

“癲喎...幾句 prompt 就整到個 Carousell 賣嘢助手出嚟,仲幫你諗埋 description、condition、caption 嗰啲位,對我呢啲零 coding 底嘅人嚟講真係好吸引。 以前有 idea 都係得個諗字,依家好似真係可以即刻砌個 prototype 出嚟試吓,呢點幾震撼。”

Questions
CodeBuddy is an AI-powered development tool that automates the workflow from design to deployment. It converts Figma designs into production-ready code, generates requirement documents from natural language descriptions, and deploys full-stack applications with integrated backend services like CloudBase and Supabase.
CodeBuddy offers a free Experience tier with 500 monthly credits, currently featuring unlimited code completions and 99 automated tasks during a promotional period. Paid plans start at ¥70/month for the Standard version with 4,000 total monthly credits, and go up to ¥700/month for the Flagship version with 50,000 total credits.
CodeBuddy allows users to import Figma design files directly, then automatically generates corresponding page code while maintaining design consistency and precise DOM structures. The system includes real-time synchronization and debugging capabilities to ensure the generated code matches the original design.
CodeBuddy is available in three formats: a standalone AI-native IDE, plugins for VS Code and JetBrains IDEs, and a CLI tool for command-line workflows. This allows developers to integrate CodeBuddy into their existing development environment or use it as a complete standalone solution.
Yes, CodeBuddy supports natural language modification capabilities that allow you to adjust styles and layouts through conversational commands. The tool also includes a task decomposition feature that breaks complex requirements into executable steps and completes them sequentially.
CodeBuddy integrates with CloudBase and Supabase for backend services, automatically handling database setup and user authentication. This BaaS integration eliminates the need for separate infrastructure configuration, allowing developers to deploy full-stack applications more efficiently.
CodeBuddy uses a credit-based system where different operations consume credits from your monthly allocation. The system provides flexibility across different AI models rather than locking users into a single provider, with auto model scheduling available on all tiers to optimize performance and cost.
Yes, CodeBuddy uses CloudStudio integration for one-click deployment to sandbox environments and generates shareable links for team validation. The free tier supports up to 10 hosted apps, while the Flagship tier supports up to 99 hosted applications with dedicated resource quotas per application.
CodeBuddy includes intelligent document generation that transforms target descriptions into standardized PRD and specification documents. This feature helps product managers and developers create comprehensive requirement documentation without writing from scratch, streamlining the product planning phase.
CodeBuddy targets product managers, designers, full-stack developers, and programming beginners who need to move from concept to deployed application efficiently. It's particularly useful for product teams looking to reduce friction between design, development, and deployment phases.
