What it is
Ahrefs addresses the challenge faced by SEO professionals and marketing teams who need comprehensive data to optimize their online visibility across traditional search and emerging AI platforms. Before Ahrefs, marketers relied on fragmented tools that provided limited insights into competitor strategies, keyword opportunities, and website performance, making it difficult to develop data-driven SEO strategies.
At a glance
Ahrefs maintains its own web crawler and backlink database that provides data not available in ChatGPT or other LLMs. The platform combines multiple SEO workflows into integrated analysis tools rather than just wrapping AI APIs.

“I’ve been using Ahrefs pretty much every day for SEO work, and it’s one of those tools I’d genuinely struggle to replace. Most of my time goes into Site Explorer, checking backlinks, competitors, lost links, and figuring out why certain pages are moving up or down. Keywords Explorer is useful too, but honestly, competitor research and backlink data are where Ahrefs saves me the most time. The interface is straightforward once you get used to it, and I like that I can quickly jump from a domain t”
“I have been using Ahrefs for almost 10 years across multiple companies, and for the most part, it has been great. It's generally my preferred SEO tool. However, for a few months now the SERP data has becomes completely unreliable. They claim that their "team is actively working" to address this, but the tool has been basically unusable for me since August. There doesn't seem to be a clear timeline for when the issue will be resolved.”
“★☆☆☆☆ Traffic estimates so inaccurate they undermine the product Ahrefs presents traffic figures with a level of precision that, in my experience, they do not deserve. I have compared its estimates with first-party analytics for a site I can verify, and the gap is enormous. A publisher looking at the Ahrefs figure alone would come away with a seriously misleading picture of that site’s audience. A site gets 870k , they show <400. YOU ARE A JOKE IN THE INDUSTRY AHREFS AND FULL OF EXCUSES. I un”
“I've been an Ahrefs user for over two years, and it remains one of the most powerful tools in my SEO stack. In 2025 I had the opportunity to attend their conference in San Diego, and it genuinely blew me away. Not just the product, but the team behind it. The depth of knowledge their people bring, combined with a truly collaborative and educational approach, is rare in this industry. I've noticed a wave of negative reviews tied to a pricing change, and I understand sticker shock is real. But I'”
“Invaluable tool when it comes to SEO — It's cutting edge, it's affordable, and it offers so many gizmos and gadgets you could never feel like you're extracting more value than it's offering. — Ahrefs is a very-near-complete expert SEO tool suite. For the price you pay and the value you get, you have to be fairly bad at SEO to not get an ROI on your investment. I think one of the great struggles with these tools is an intuitive user experience, and despite how clunky their interface might look, ”

“I bought the 250 USD per month plan. It worked great for initial 10 days after that constant restrictions called "Suspicious activity". Support cant do anything from lifting the restrictions to telling why this is happening and when asked why they have their reasons ready. "We do not provide the specific reasons to avoid abuse of our tool." They let you talk to a bot initially, and even emails are replied to by bots, which is even more frustrating. From a month-long subscription, I will not be”
“They will take your money then trottle you so hard you can't make use of the credits you paid for. Their bot is blocked everywhere so majority of bugs it will find are flase positives, then give your site a "health score" based om errors on their end. Their keyword section is worse than what you can find for free. Stay away”
“I see this question every week so figured I'd share what I've learned the hard way. **Background:** I've run 120+ SEO campaigns across niches, SaaS, local, and e-commerce. I've used both tools at different points and have thoughts. --- **Where Ahrefs is genuinely better:** - Backlink index updates every 15–30 min vs SEMrush's daily updates. If you're actively link building this matters more than people admit.- Click data on keywords. It shows actual clicks, not just search volume. A keyword with”

“I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with Ahrefs' customer support and their unfair, opaque restriction policies. My workspace has 5 paid accounts, and two of them were abruptly restricted/blocked by their automated system. When I asked support (Julia) which exact terms of service were violated, they admitted that they do not have fixed numerical limits (like X requests per minute or Y reports per day) written in their Terms of Service. Instead, they hide behind vague phrases like "usage ”

“Je suis avec Ahrefs depuis plusieurs années. J'étais globalement satisfait mais j'avoue que les volumes de trafic partagé sont trop loin de la réalité que je sais de mes GA4. Les prix ont beaucoup augmenté, par chance je reste au tarif 2022, mais je voulais essayer des services supplémentaires et auquel cas je prends une augmentation monstre. En comparaison le travaille aussi avec SERanking, meilleur support client et prix moins prohibitifs. Je me donne quelques mois pour choisir ”

“Wee were blocked due to susupicious activity, been over 2 weeks now. No warning nothing before the block, potentially a hack who knows they wont tell us. Won't even tell us if it's still happening after PW change. Still no access to account that we're paying £200+ a month for and whats to add is they say we gotta pay for it! Whilst we can't even use it. Support is absolutely useless”

“You cannot just print a page - somehow they prevent that so you use looker studio for thousands of dollars of use a screenshot - very primitive from a useful point of view - you will spend hours trying to print page 2 of a pdf. I am frustrated enough to write this. They purposely made it that way and will not dispute this. I had to use a second service that lets me print simple reports. Funny - they impede the printing of a page to create reports. It's like they forgot what they do. Supposed to ”
“They should be more transparent with their plans, but the service works fine and is easy to work with”
“DO NOT USE AHREFS. Bunch of scammers. You sign up for a plan thinking you can do some keyword research but GUESS WHAT: It's credit based. Once you spend you measily 100 credits that cost $27. You're basically blocked from performing any meaningful action in the app. You CAN'T EVEN ACCESS THE LIST YOU MADE and have to either upgrade or wait for your monthly reset. DO NOT USE AHREFS!”
